The Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger is an art judge for a lavish new art prize on the Caribbean island of Mustique. The exhibition and prize with the theme “Caribbean Soul” features paintings by 16 artists from the region—including Brandon Best of Barbados and Aurora Honeywell of Trinidad & Tobago—who are showing their entries at Mustique’s Community Centre later this month (27-29 December). As we went to press, three shortlisted artists competed for a total shared prize of $20,000. All paintings featured are for sale, with 50% of the proceeds donated to the Mustique Educational Trust. The collector and author Tiqui Atencio Demirdjian is behind the new award, while other esteemed judges on the panel include the UK artist Marc Quinn and the auctioneer Simon de Pury. Perhaps Quinn will do a duet with Jagger—Paint it, Black or Forty Licks (of paint)?
