Hundreds of bottles of “what appeared to be urine” were found in the Met last night, according to the New York Post—which noted that the museum’s starry Met Gala was “soaked in controversy.”

“The shocking stunt—tied to allegations that Amazon warehouse workers feel forced to pee in bottles, rather than take bathroom breaks—comes as backlash over the billionaire’s involvement in the glitzy fundraiser has reached a fever pitch across New York City,” the Post reported.

Credit for the protest was claimed by Everybody Hates Elon, an anti-billionaire group that set its sights on an event that did not lack for billionaires.

In a statement on Instagram, the UK-based group said it had left the “piss bottles” to call attention to how “The Met Museum is taking the PISS by having Jeff [Bezos] honoured as their Gala host.” Also: “Amazon avoids MILLIONS in tax and Bezos is one of the world’s richest men.”

The bottles were accompanied by text explaining the protest. “One particularly inflammatory display labeled a cluster of plastic bottles as a ‘Met Gala VIP toilet,’ with signage reading: ‘Installed in honor of Met Gala chair Jeff Bezos. Go ahead, it’s good enough for his staff.’” In support of that display, Everybody Hates Elon wrote on Instagram: “If it’s ok for #MetGala chair Jeff Bezos force his workers to piss in bottles, sure it’s ok to force the Kardashians as well..?💋”

The group also pointed out, in a footnote to one of its posts: “Not real piss obvs.”
