The National Portrait Gallery is having a brat summer—in other words, the venerable London institution has announced the acquisition of a new portrait of the boundary-pushing singer Charli xcx.

The eye-catching photograph, which shows the singer leaning back against a wall wearing a white crop top and black jeans, was taken in 2024 by the UK photographer and director Harley Weir. Weir’s photograph of Charli xcx is the latest portrait acquisition supported by the Bukhman Foundation through the Collecting the Now initiative (the foundation gave £1m towards the contemporary acquisitions fund).

The pic of the top-notch pop star is on display in the History Makers space (Room 33) which “celebrates figures who have shaped contemporary culture and public life”, the gallery says. Charli xcx released her latest album Music, Fashion, Film earlier this month.
