Some artists long to hang their works on the walls of a prestigious museum—which is exactly what one aspiring creative did early this year. Details have just come to light about an art technician who cheekily installed one of his own works at the Pinakothek der Moderne museum in Munich, displaying his piece alongside art by big names such as Andy Warhol (the incident on 23 February was not made public until 8 April). “The [museum] employee considers himself as an artist and most likely saw his role in the museum’s installation team as a day-job to support his true calling,” a spokesperson for the Pinakothek told the Guardian. It is unclear how long the painting—60 by 120 centimetres in size—hung on the wall. “All I can say is that we did not receive any positive feedback on the addition from visitors to the gallery,” the spokesperson adds, saying that the gallery had terminated the contract of a member of its technical service team and even banned him from entering the premises (art clearly does not pay—sometimes).
