George Condo is heading back to Hauser & Wirth less than a year after leaving the mega-gallery, with the two sides reuniting for a pair of exhibitions in 2027 and resuming a relationship that dates back to 2019.
Hauser & Wirth announced Wednesday that it will present exhibitions of new and historical works by Condo at its Paris and Palo Alto galleries in 2027, following the artist’s 2025 career survey at the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris.
When asked about the arrangement, a spokesperson confirmed that Hauser & Wirth has resumed representing Condo worldwide. The spokesperson added that Condo will continue to maintain his longtime relationship with Sprüth Magers.
The move marks a quick reversal. In November, Condo left Hauser & Wirth after six years to join Sprüth Magers and Skarstedt, a return to dealers with whom he had worked for decades. Condo first exhibited with Monika Sprüth in 1984, and he was represented by Skarstedt from 2004 until joining Hauser & Wirth in 2019.
In a statement, Condo said he was already looking ahead to the two exhibitions.
“I’m very excited to be looking toward 2027 and my next exhibitions with Hauser & Wirth in distinct locations that hold such resonance and allure for me,” he said. Condo described Paris as a city that has inspired him for decades and said he is equally excited by the prospect of showing new work in Palo Alto, “the birthplace of technology.”
Hauser & Wirth president Marc Payot called the exhibitions “the next chapter in our collaboration.”
“It’s wonderful to be starting the next chapter in our collaboration with George Condo by planning ambitious shows in places identified with cultural breakthroughs,” Payot said in a statement. “George is, and always has been, a true pioneer.”
Condo remains one of the biggest names in contemporary painting. His works regularly command seven-figure prices, and his auction record stands at $6.8 million, set in 2020 for Force Field (2010). Museums including the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Centre Pompidou hold his work in their collections.
