Christie’s post-war to present auction totaled $21.5 million in New York on Wednesday night. The sale was led by an untitled 1970 oil-on-paper work by Cy Twombly, which was part of the collection of Shirley Ross Davis.

The top five lots from the sale were as follows:

  • Cy Twombly’s Untitled (Roman Note) (1970) sold for $1.6 million.
  • Alma Thomas’s Pink of Spring (1973) sold for $1.4 million.
  • Jonas Wood’s SK Dino Pot #2 (2015) sold for $756,000.
  • George Condo’s The Return of Client No. 9 (2008) sold for $693,000.
  • Kenneth Noland’s Untitled (1965) sold for $567,000.

The sale also yielded two new auction records for the following artists:

  • Igshaan Adams, for Kicking Dust (2020) which sold for $100,800, more than 200% of its low estimate of $40,000.
  • Lois Dodd, for Green Door and Bed (1994), which sold for $239,400, nearly four times its low estimate of $60,000.
