When Sotheby’s announced in 2023 that it had purchased, and would soon be moving its headquarters to, the iconic Breuer Building, it was all but certain that the auction house had big plans for it. Since opening the space in November, the landmark building, designed by architect Marcel Breuer and completed in 1966, has played host to one of Sotheby’s most successful sales seasons, as well as a packed schedule of ritzy opening events. Add one more: Sotheby’s inaugural “Creators and Collectors” dinner.

Staged on Tuesday night, the event saw the auction house partner with Tiffany & Co., Edition Hotels, and Sotheby’s International Realty to honor the five cover stars of the latest issue of Sotheby’s eponymous magazine: Jen Rubio, Thelma Golden, Peter Marino, John Batiste, and Julian Schnabel.

“Tonight is about celebrating the forces that power our world,” Kristina O’Neill, Sotheby’s head of media, told the assembled guests, per Vogue. “These are the creators who push ideas forward, and the collectors whose belief and curiosity help those ideas flourish.”

The room at the Breuer was decorated with works from the estate of Anne Schlumberger, including pieces by Damien Hirst, Dale Chihuly, and Francois-Xavier Lalanne. And cover models for Sotheby’s magazine were far from the only stars in attendance.
