A rare sapphire necklace, known as the “Royal Blue,” fetched HKD 125,450,000 ($16,131,051) at Christie’s Hong Kong on Tuesday.

It was one among a number of notable luxury items, including fine wine, hand bags, and jewelry, to hit the block as part of the auction house’s Hong Kong Luxury Week Autumn 2025 this week. The event marked its first anniversary of its Asia Pacific headquarters at The Henderson, Hong Kong.

The Royal Blue necklace, which headlined the “Magnificent Jewels” sale of more than 100 jewels, was one of the most valuable pieces to come to auction in Asia this year. It boasts 16 Kashmir Royal Blue sapphires that together total 104.61 carats, with the center stone weighing 13.37 carats alone. The sapphires were unearthed from the mines of Kashmir and are renown for their quality and depth of blue.

On bringing an item of this rarity to the auction block, Christie’s said in a statement that the Royal Blue was “a testament to the demand from collectors for rare, coloured gemstones of exceptional quality.”

The necklace was estimated to bring in HKD 100–150 million ($12.9–$19.3 million) and fell in the middle of that estimate at $16.1 million, signaling strength in the Asian market during a time when many have signaled Western market woes.

A pair of no-heat Kashmir sapphire and diamond earrings accompanied the necklace at the sale.
