Artist Liz Reid is showing a pop-up exhibition of new drawings, paintings and prints of Glasgow and beyond. Titled Greetings from Glasgow, its main focus is 100 small works on plywood postcards – a kind of daily diary of views around the city (and on excursions further afield) celebrating all aspects of city life, from postcard-perfect iconic sights like the Barrowland Ballroom, pictured above, to views of graffiti, roadworks under the M8 and deserted city lanes.

Liz says, ‘Some of my painted postcards are definitely what you might call ‘views of nothing’. I have quite a collection of vintage postcards and I’ve taken inspiration from some of my favourites from the 50s and 60s, with offbeat views of boarding house dining rooms or empty boating ponds.’
Her postcards have been created as part of the 100 Days Project Scotland* – an annual challenge starting 1st June, designed to bring together a community through creative daily practice. Day 100 will be Monday 8th September, so the last few postcards of the 100 will be created during the exhibition itself.

Also on show will be a series of monoprints made at Glasgow Print Studio, alongside a new collection of drawings and paintings inspired by the view from the top deck of the no. 18 bus. The exhibition, running for only one weekend, will include all the original postcards, plus framed drawings, paintings and prints, with all work for sale.
Liz lives in the east end of Glasgow and works from her studio in the Barras and on location around Glasgow, recording the city, its people and places. She has a particular interest in architectural subjects and helps to lead the Glasgow Urban Sketchers group, drawing live on location around the city.
Admission is free.

*The 100 Days Project challenges artists to pick a creative outlet and commit to create, every day for 100 days, within whatever framework or medium they choose. There are two simple rules: repeat a simple creative task every day for 100 days, and record each day’s effort.
