Photofairs, the contemporary art fair specializing in photography and digital art, has announced its first-ever Hong Kong edition, which will be held March 26–30, 2025. The inaugural event, organized by London-based Creo Arts in partnership with Angus Montgomery Arts, will take place in an independent 5,600-square-meter tent on the waterfront in the city’s Central district. The fair expects to host between 50 and 75 exhibitors.

This announcement closely follows Photofairs’s decision to cancel its would-be second edition in New York, which was slated for fall 2024. Last year, the New York fair hosted 56 galleries from more than 20 cities in September at the Javits Center, coinciding with The Armory Show.

Photofairs Hong Kong will take place during Hong Kong Art Week (March 25–30, 2025). The fair will also align with Art Basel Hong Kong, which is scheduled for March 28–30, 2025. “Taking place during the annual Art Week, the fair is a vital new touchpoint to celebrate photography, embedded within an unmissable week of cultural events and activations around the city,” Creo founder and CEO Scott Gray said in a press statement.

Fan Ni, the director of Photofairs Shanghai, will head the new Hong Kong edition. Ni first joined the fair as director in 2019, bringing her expertise from her prior roles as the associate publisher at Art Review Asia and her tenure at the UCCA Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing. Photofairs Shanghai, which debuted in 2014, is scheduled for May 2025.
