With its 50th anniversary looming, MoMA PS1 has revealed details for the 2026 edition of Greater New York, its quinquennial for art made in and around the city.

Whereas in the past, the edition has sought outside curators to help organize the show, PS1 is looking closer to home this time around. The curatorial team of PS1 will conceive this edition of Greater New York, whose organizers include director Connie Butler, chief curator and director of curatorial affairs Ruba Katrib, and associate curators Jody Graf and Elena Ketelsen González.

Also working on this edition are Kari Rittenbach, an assistant curator; Sheldon Gooch, a curatorial assistant; and Andrea Sánchez, curatorial coordinator.

“Each iteration of Greater New York is formed in relation to the artists of this city, offering a view into the practices, perspectives, and preoccupations that shape a moment,” Katrib said in a statement to ARTnews. “Over the past year, our curatorial team has spent countless hours in studio visits across the five boroughs—an energizing process that has been full of conversations, discoveries, and close-looking.”

A theme hasn’t been announced yet for the show, which typically takes over the full museum. With more than 50 artists included, this Greater New York opens on April 16, 2026.

Next year will mark a rare convergence in New York, whose three most notable biennial-style shows are all set to take place then. The Whitney Biennial is also opening in the spring, with the New Museum Triennial due to follow later on.

First held in 2000, Greater New York takes place once every five years, with the last edition occurring in 2020.s
