Berlin stalwart Galerie Thomas Schulte has opened a second exhibition venue in the German capital. The new space is located in the Mercator-Höfe courtyard complex on Potsdamer Straße, close to other galleries such as Esther Schipper and Galerie Max Hetzler.
Since its founding in 1991, Galerie Thomas Schulte has focused on conceptual art from the 1960s to the present. Located in a former apartment, the new gallery offers a more intimate setting compared to the main gallery on Charlottenstrasse and aims to provide a fresh context for artistic presentations and discussions.
“The new gallery is an old building dating back to around 1880, which has a very natural layout and a completely different atmosphere,” said founder Thomas Schulte. “The rooms feel more familiar with a more human scale; works are now in a completely different context here and that is also what we are aiming for. We don’t want to make a young programme per se, we want to see our programme expand in a different setting.”
