“Dressing Up” oil on canvas, 16″ x 20″

I believe that art connects us to a beautiful place within ourselves. It’s this magical place where stories lay waiting for an opportunity to be expressed. I have been capturing stories on canvas with my oil paints for as long as I can remember.

“Seeking Harmony” oil on canvas, 36″ x 36″

Oil paints are my favourite medium. They have a richness and vibrancy yet warmth and luminescence to them that I can achieve by using the Old Masters techniques. I attended the Academy of Realist Art where I learned to paint figurative oil paintings in a contemporary way.

If you were to ask me who am I and what type of artwork I do, my answer would be, “I am a figurative and portrait artist who creates oil paintings inspired by life and travel in a contemporary narrative style.” I also find joy in creating custom artwork for others. Bringing beautiful art to others gives me happiness and a sense of purpose.

Travelling is a great source of inspiration. I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to travel to a few amazing countries. A number of my oil paintings are based on these incredible adventures.

Following our trip to Kenya in 2008, my spouse Andre Chatelain (who is also an artist) and I, founded our nonprofit organization, Painting a New World.

Through the sales of our artwork, we support artists in Kenya helping to create positive changes in their community. We currently have sponsored more than 30 murals on school walls and community centers in Kenya, Tchad, and Haiti.

My artwork has received many accolades and awards. They are in public and private collections throughout Canada, the U.S. and Europe. I have participated in solo and group exhibitions and two museums, including the National Gallery of Ottawa. I am always grateful when collectors connect with my artwork and purchase it.

“Sleeping Giant” oil on canvas, 30″ x 30″

I currently live in Sainte-Anne-des-Lacs, Quebec. Living in the Laurentians among nature has inspired me to create from the beauty of my surroundings. Daily walks in the forest with my goldendoodle have led me to explore and discover the secret world of trees and forest animals. This year the forest and its animal friends are the stories waiting to be captured on canvas.
