Jane Fulton Alt (b. 1951) has spent more than 40 years visiting one lake in northern Wisconsin, where the season for water lilies is as fleeting as the light. “I head out at daybreak, camera and paddle in hand as I skim the surface of the water,” the photographer explains. “Their beauty, geometric forms and musical rhythms astonish me.” The resulting pictures show vibrant yellow-green leaves floating atop dark pools, whilst submerged stems dance in the deep. They recall the richness of oil paints. Alt’s new book, Still Life: A Photographer’s Journey Through Grief and Gardening, is published in April by MW Editions. Following the unexpected death of her husband, Howard, the artist took over stewardship of a garden he planted in response to climate change. The book offers 45 pictures of plants and flowers living in this ecosystem, via styles ranging from abstraction to Dutch still life. A powerful reflection on care, ecological crisis, growth and loss.  janefultonalt.com | @janefultonalt
