Josefina Temín: A Legacy of Creation, Education, and Public Space
Temín’s exhibition history reflects decades of sustained artistic activity across Mexico and internationally. Since the late 1970s, her work has appeared in numerous solo exhibitions at institutions including the Museo Universitario del Chopo, Museo de Arte Popular, Museo de Arte de Querétaro, Museo de Escultura Contemporánea Federico Silva, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Ateneo de Yucatán, Biblioteca de México, and the Centro Cultural Corea of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Mexico. Beyond Mexico, her sculptures have been exhibited in countries including Israel, Costa Rica, Colombia, Portugal, Italy, and many others. Her participation in collective exhibitions has also connected her work with audiences across Europe, Latin America, Asia, and the United States. Works such as Imaginaciones, ¿Qué Ves?, Adivina, Movimiento, Alegría, Paz a través de la Unión, Unión a través de la Paz, Hermandades Escultóricas. México Japón, Tres Columnas, and Hojas demonstrate her interest in creating sculpture that becomes part of everyday civic life. Education represents another essential aspect of Temín’s legacy. Through her Proyecto Enseñanza, she encourages children to discover drawing through observation, imagination, memory, space, line, and personal expression rather than imitation. Poetry readings become part of the learning process, creating meaningful connections between literature and visual creativity while helping young participants trust their own ways of seeing. She has conducted workshops in museums, schools, and cultural institutions across Mexico as well as in Costa Rica, Colombia, and Italy.
