The Musée du Louvre acquired its first video work: Les 4 temps (The 4 Seasons), which was made by by the Algeria-born artist Mohamed Bourouissa.
The video work centers around the well-known Tuileries Gardens in Paris that connect the museum with the Place de la Concorde. The gardens were created for Catherine de’ Medici in 1564 and were opened to the public in the 17th century. Since 2005, they have been managed by the Louvre and protected as a UNESCO Historic Monument and World Heritage site.
The video also connects to Bourouissa’s childhood, showing the 4 Temps mall in La Défense where he grew up. The piece is slated to be on view in the nearby Salle de la Chapelle from October 22 though January 19, 2026.
The Louvre previously invited Bourouissa to take over its Instagram account, where he unveiled a new video each week between February 2024 and 2025. Over the course of a year, the project garnered millions of views.
“Fifty-two weeks and 52 videos—we could follow the life of the garden for an entire year, across the four seasons,” Donatien Grau, the Louvre’s head of contemporary programs, told the Art Newspaper. “After that, the videos were removed from the Instagram channel and Mohamed turned them into a stand-alone piece, for which he also composed the music, recording the vibrations of the plants of the garden.”
The piece entered the museum’s collection via its Histoire du Louvre program, focused on acquiring historic or contemporary works that reference the institution’s history.
