As we reach the end of another year, we’re taking a chance to look back on the remarkable artists, photographers and creatives who have been part of Aesthetica in 2024. Throughout December, roundups will feature the interviews, images and inspiration that has helped make the year so remarkable. To kick things off, here are the six images that made it onto the cover in 2024.
Tekla Evelina Severin | The December / January cover artist, also known as Teklan, is a renowned Swedish stylist and designer celebrated for striking interiors and a masterful use of colour blocking. In SOLARIS, different shades of red and pink skilfully offset each other to construct bold, unexpected harmonies, whilst in Picnic Outdoors fresh lilacs are paired with zesty yellows and rich greens.
Fares Micue | In the October / November issue, Fares Micue returned to Aesthetica’s pages with positivity and optimism, sharing joy with others through a meticulous creative process. Every single element of Micue’s composition is intentional, planned out and skillfully put together, from costume to location – whether that be in the studio or nestled amongst the glowing autumn leaves.
Maia Flore | August / September’s cover artist has a reputation for constructing dreamworlds where figures fly, balance and bend, defying the laws of physics. Sparks dance skywards. Flowers extend as far as the eye can see. She brings magic to life. This image is almost Hitchcockian, showing a dramatically lit figure in a red jumpsuit, bounding towards the camera. What are they running to? Or from?
Jonas Hafner | The artist’s images excel in crafting a truly palpable sense of mood, with every shot evoking a different ambience, emotion or narrative. Each scene unfolds as if part of a storybook, from figures lying in beet leaves to eyes peering with wonder through the sky blue garden gate. Some are dark, brooding and mournful, others are playful and experimental, relishing in the freedom of youth.
Sarah Doyle | Sarah Doyle’s work is a reminder that every colour has a story to tell. The Dublin-based photographer experiments with harmonic contrast and colour, as well as the interplay of objects in “Abstraction”, the April / May issue of the magazine. Torn paper, wooden sticks and cut-out circles pop out against painted backgrounds, whilst figures shade their eyes from an artificial sun.
Tropico Photo | The vibrant oranges and yellows of Tropico Photo brought some sunshine to the February / March issue of Aesthetica Magazine. The studio is dedicated to making jubilant work at the intersection of fine art and advertising, transporting us to idyllic locations: places filled with bright painted buildings and clear skies, where the sun never seems to set and there’s rarely a cloud in sight.
Andrea Torres Balaguer | Intoxicating jewel tones are the hallmark of Andrea Torres Balaguer’s work, which brought in the new year at Aesthetica. The artist’s photographic portraits could easily be mistaken for oil paintings. Garnet red and emerald green provide backdrops for gold silk blouses and deep velvet gowns. A brush stroke cuts straight across each face, cloaking the subject in an.
